Two cars were stolen in Hartbeespoort on Wednesday, the first vehicle thefts since the lockdown started in March. A motorcycle was also stolen in Waterfront Street in Schoemansville on Friday night, and a quad bike from a smallholding in De Rust over the weekend.

A silver Volkswagen Polo was stolen at Village Mall on Wednesday afternoon shortly after 15:00 while the owner was shopping. It was recovered in Hebron later the same day.

A Volkswagen City Golf was also stolen at a pub on the old Rustenburg road on Wednesday night.

Car thieves also attempted to steal a vehicle from a shopping centre in Beethoven Road on Thursday while the owner was shopping. The vehicle’s door lock was forced open and the ignition of the vehicle damaged.

A battery, jack and leather jackets were stolen from ‘n vehicle in Rietfontein over the weekend.

“Motorists are warned that car thieves are on the prowl again. Park in safe places, preferably where security officers are in the area,” said Romano van der Spuy, chairman of the Hartbeespoort Community Policing forum (CPF).
