Police nabbed the man after they were initially called out for a complaint of domestic violence.
Benoni police arrested a man in the Rynfield suburb of Benoni on charges of being in possession of unlawful ammunition and domestic violence.
According to Captain Nomsa Sekele, the spokesperson for the police station, officers responded to the residence at 23:50 on October 4 after a complaint of domestic violence was received.
“Upon arrival, officers found that the 23-year-old suspect was in possession of two homemade weapons capable of firing shotgun bullets, two petrol bombs and shotgun ammunition,” she said.
“The intended use for the weapons has not yet been established and investigations continue.”
A secondary charge of domestic violence was brought against the suspect by his stepfather.
