Seven more South Africans have died from Covid-19, the Health Department reported.

The total number of confirmed Covid-19 cases in the country is now at 3 635, as confirmed by the National Department of Health.

This is an increase of 170 cases since yesterday.

A total of 133 774 tests have been conducted thus far, with 6 868 done in the last 24 hours.

“Today, we regrettably report seven more Covid-19 related deaths. Five of them occurred in the Western Cape and two in KwaZulu-Natal. This increases the total to 65 deaths. We express our condolences to the affected families and appreciate the health workers who treated these patients,” Health Minister Zweli Mkhize, commented.

By this time a month ago, on 22 March, the country had recorded 274 positive cases of Covid-19. At the time, 9 315 tests had been conducted.

In the meantime, it is expected that the President, Cyril Ramaphosa, will on Thursday address the nation on the phased re-opening of businesses in the country.
