D-day for prepaid meters on Sunday
The Madibeng Municipality said this week that all prepaid meters should be compliant and ready for the TID rollover this Sunday, 24 November.
“The municipality made good progress and we should be able to complete the process by the deadline,” said spokesperson Tumelo Tshabalala.
“We have a total number of 9942 active meters and 7989 have already been rolled over. 1953 meters still have to be rolled over by the users.
All prepaid electricity customers are urged to check if their prepaid meters are updated and ready for the TID rollover.
After this deadline, meters will no longer accept electricity tokens unless they are updated to Key Revision Number (KRN) 2. Eskom said that there will be no extension to the 24 November 2024 deadline for the Token Identifier (TID) update.
How to check if your prepaid meter has been upgraded:
Enter the code 1844 6744 0738 4377 2416 on the keypad. For Conlog meters, enter #005# . The screen will display either the number ‘1’ or ‘2,’ and in some cases, letters may appear with the KRN number.
A display of “1” means the meter still operates on KRN1 and needs to be updated, while a “2” confirms the meter has been upgraded to KRN2 and you don’t have to do anything further. You will be able to buy and recharge after 24 November 2024.
If your meter still displays KRN1, buy electricity of at least R10 from Pick n Pay, Checkers, Spar or any fuel station that sells electricity (not on your banking app or any online third-party ). You should then receive three codes, the first two being the TID Rollover codes and the third being the voucher for the electricity bought.
Please enter all three codes into your pre-paid meter directly after each other. Please also remember to enter all electricity vouchers bought previously before you enter the TID Rollover codes, as they will not be valid after your meter has been reset.
Only after following the above steps, and you are still not able to upgrade your pre-paid meter, you can contact the following Madibeng ward councillors for assistance. WhatsApp your name, address and pre-paid meter number to:
