A 38-year-old father from Assen near Brits was sentenced to two life sentences in the Pretoria High Court on Wednesday for poisoning his two sons, aged 11 and 12.
Dannyboy Fistos Khumalo was also sentenced to an additional three years for defeating the ends of justice.
Khumalo poisoned his two sons with rat poison in May 2020. Shortly after the boys died in their house, Khumalo reported to the police that his sons drank poison and died. “However, during the investigation it was determined that the father poisoned the children,’ said police spokesperson, Colonel Amanda Funani. He was charged with two counts of murder and arrested the day after the children died.
Khumalo has been in prison since his arrest. Provincial police commissioner, Lieutenant General Sello Kwena welcomed the sentence and commended the police for working tirelessly to ensure that they collect enough evidence that led to Khumalo’s conviction.
