Ford is set to recall some motor vehicles. What has led to this?
Motor vehicle defects and recalls have been part of the automotive industry history.
Ford announced on Thursday that it will recall 3 million vehicles for air bag inflators that could rupture, at a cost of $610 million.
The defect, in rare instances leads to air bag inflators rupturing and sending potentially deadly metal fragments flying.
The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration ordered Ford to issue the recall for driver-side air bag inflators.
The recall affects 2006 to 2012 model vehicles whose airbags were produced by Takata. Worldwide there have been 27 deaths with 400 injuries recorded as a result of faulty inflators.
This unfortunate development is expected to negatively affect this automotive manufacturer.
