Gauteng plot owner charged with drug trafficking

Equipment and products for the cultivation of cannabis were found during a police search.

A man from Bronklane, De Deur near Vereeniging is accused of drug trafficking after cannabis to the value of half a million rand, as well as other equipment were found on his property.

A tip-off from a source led members of the Directorate for Priority Crime Investigations together with the Vereeniging SAPS under the Serious Organised Crime Investigation Unit to the plot.

Police spokesperson Sergeant Shaan Motsapi reports that a search and seizure warrant was obtained and executed on Wednesday.

“While the police were busy searching on the premises, they discovered fertilizers and products including equipment used in the cultivation of cannabis.

“The owner of the plot was found on the premises and immediately arrested on a charge of drug trafficking.”

Motsapi says the suspect will appear at the Vereeniging magistrate court on a charge of drug trafficking.

Motsapi says the cannabis found on the plot had an estimated street value of R500 000.
