A Nine-year-old girl drowned in a swimming pool at a resort in Hartbeespoort on Thursday.

According to Douwlene Nieuwoudt of Magaliespark, the girl was at the resort with family members and was swimming in the pool when she got into trouble. “We were told the family members were with a smaller child at the nearby small pool when the girl wandered off to the big pool. Two boys playing with a ball in the swimming pool saw that she was in trouble and lifted her out of the pool,” Nieuwoudt said.
Cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) was performed until the Hartbeespoort Emergency Medical Service (HEMS) arrived. Paramedics managed to revive the girl and she was stabilised before she was flown by an emergency medical helicopter to a hospital in Pretoria for specialised care. She unfortunately died on Friday morning.
This follows short on the heels of the drowning of two students at a hotel in the Broederstroom area. The lifeless bodies of girl (19) and man (21) were discovered by a security guard in the hotel swimming pool around 21:00 on 30 November. The students from Mogwase Orbit Leadership College were attending a field training programme at the venue had and allegedly left the bar area an hour before their bodies was discovered.
