The Hartbeespoort Community Policing Forum (CPF) was dissolved by the CPF District Board a few weeks ago and an interim committee was established.
Upon an enquiry about the decision, the North West police, Colonel Adele Myburgh said the CPF is a structure that establishes a partnership between the community and the police. “Members of the Hartbeespoort Community Policing Forum are elected in accordance with the SAPS Act, the Community Policing Strategy and the Provincial Community Policing Constitution. In cases where there is dissatisfaction, the CPF should follow due processes and proper lines of communication in instances where they are aggrieved by the decision or actions of the District Board.”
Hartbeespoort CPF chairman, Romano van der Spuy resigned following the decision by the district board. “I stepped down as Chairman of Hartbeespoort Community Police Forum after serving the community in this capacity for 29 years. I joined in 1995. It has been an incredible journey with some awful lows and sublime highs. Thousands of people have crossed my path and enriched my life endlessly,” he said following his resignation.
“To all our awesome residents, I say a big thank you and also a very sad farewell. I will, however, still be involved in neighbourhood watches and security in general as well as the infrastructure upgrading of our town. A lifetime of work has passed in the blink of an eye but the experience will never be forgotten. To all those police and security officers who walked the extra mile with me, I salute you and thank you guys from the bottom of my heart.”
