Hawks arrest two in Brits for stolen trucks with copper

The Hawks arrested two men on Thursday after they were found in possession of two suspected stolen trucks carrying copper worth R2.5 million.

“The pair was arrested by members of the Hawks’ Serious Organised Crime Investigation on 25 March 2020 in Brits when they were found in possession of two suspected stolen trucks carrying copper. The trucks were allegedly hijacked and were found hidden at a warehouse in Brits. The suspects were seated inside the trucks and were immediately arrested,” said Hawks spokesperson Captain Tlangelani Rikhotso.

The trucks, worth approximately R800 000 and copper worth R2.5 million, were seized for further investigation.

Felix Bonomari (24) and Yusuf Thomas (36) appeared before the Brits Magistrate’s Court on 27 March 2020 for illegal possession of suspected stolen property.
The matter was postponed to 6 April 2020 for a formal bail application.
