Health MEC warns of COVID-19 surge in NW

The North West province now has the second largest COVID-19 infection rate after Gauteng with 17 628 active cases on Wednesday. Madibeng had 2 452 active cases on Wednesday.

The MEC for the Department of Health in North West has issued a stern warning to communities on Sunday to adhere to COVID-19 regulations after 1 401 new cases was reported.

He announced that members from the provincial command council will from Monday move around big towns in the province to ensure compliance to COVID-19 regulations. Hospitals in the province are severely strained.

“We call on people to stop expecting government to police them. Take responsibility,” he said.
On Sunday, the number of active cases in North West was 16 424. The province has recorded a total of 100 195 cases since the start of the pandemic. To date 2 347 have died.

“The situation is serious and people must take this serious. 159 266 people have been vaccinated up until Sunday. We call on our people to behave. The situation in North West is serious.”
