A man was tied up and dragged to a river by four knife-wielding robbers during a house robbery on a smallholding in Broederstroom on Tuesday according to police spokesperson, Maria Nkabinde, the 43-year-old man was alone in his rented room on a smallholding in Leeuwenkloof in Broederstroom at 21:45 when four men broke down the door to his room. The robbers were armed with knives and a crowbar.
The robbers took a television set, cellphone, power bank and gas cylinder from the man’s room and then demanded the keys to the main house on the property. “The man was assaulted when he couldn’t produce the keys, tied up and taken to a nearby river.”
The robbers then moved on to the main house, forced open a door to the storeroom from which they stole garden tools. They fled when the house alarm was triggered.
“The victim was found by security personnel and transported to hospital. He did not sustain serious injuries,” Nkabinde said.
Shortly after this, two masked men, armed with knives, invaded a house with three occupants on a smallholding on the Hartebeeshoek road and held them at knife-point before fleeing with cellphones, laptop and cash.
According to Nkabinde, the two robbers overpowered a 26-year-old man in his bedroom at 22:00, grabbed his cellphone from his hands and tied him up with an electrical cord. They gathered the other items and fled on foot. No one was injured.
“The police are urging members of the community to ensure that they lock all doors and gates during the night. Windows must also be closed properly as a precautionary measure against house robberies,” she said.
The Hartbeespoort police are investigating house robbery cases.
