Job seekers who advertise in local newspapers, including the Kormorant, are warned about fraudsters who contact them, offering jobs and then scamming them out of money.
The Kormorant has received a number of complaints from job seekers who have been contacted by people offering them jobs and then demanding money, in some cases as much as R750, for reasons like transport etc. The jobs never materialise.
The Hartbeespoort community policing forum has issued a warning to job seekers not to fall for these false promises and pay any money to get supposed jobs.
“If people ask you for money in order to get a post, it is a scam. We urge people looking for work to be on the lookout for these fraudsters and report them to the police,” said Romano van der Spuy, chairperson of the Hartbeespoort community policing forum.
