Kosmos murders accused denied bail
The Brits Magistrates’ Court on Tuesday denied bail to Paul Prinsloo (62) who stands accused of shooting and killing his wife and stepdaughter a year ago.

Paul Prinsloo (62) in court on Tuesday.
Prinsloo has been incarcerated since his arrest on 27 November 2023. He is accused of premeditated murder after shooting and killing his wife Magdaleen Prinsloo (58) and stepdaughter Ruzanne Weideman (31) with a hunting rifle at their home in Kosmos.
According to eyewitness Nico Pienaar, the shootings followed heated arguments between Prinsloo and the two women. Pienaar also testified that Prinsloo had told him hours before the murders that he was going to kill three people. The women were murdered in front of Weideman’s six-year-old daughter.
During his bail judgement, Magistrate Reagan Rosenberg agreed with the state’s argument that the murders were premeditated and that Prinsloo was a flight risk.
Prinsloo was visibly upset after the judgement. Following a consultation with Prinsloo, his legal representatives told the court that on their client’s instruction, they would no longer be representing him.
Magdaleen’s sisters Nici Hanly and Carlien Kleyn said after the judgement that they were extremely relieved that Prinsloo was denied bail. “It has been a horribly traumatic year. He ruined so many people’s and families’ lives. He violently removed our sister from our lives. I am thankful that he will remain locked up, hopefully for the rest of his life,” Hanly said.
