The interruption of power imports from Mozambique as well as unplanned generating unit failures are to blame. 

South Africans will have to brace themselves for extended load-shedding after four more generating units failed. The eThekwini region will be excluded due to ongoing flooding in the area.

Eskom has announced that load-shedding will be extended from today until 05:00 on Friday. The power utility said it was because there was a delay in returning five generating units to service.

Four units, one each at Medupi, Matla Kendal and Komati power stations failed overnight. Power imports from Mozambique was also interrupted causing further constraints on the power grid.

Three units that were returned to service, were not enough to avoid extended load-shedding.
