Rand Water CEO Sipho Mosai
Madibeng owes Rand Water R7m of which R547 457.42 was outstanding from the previous financial year.
Rand Water Chief Executive Officer Sipho Mosai revealed this during an update on the state of bulk water supply this week.
However, Madibeng seems to be one of the lesser culprits. The City of Tshwane and the City of Ekurhuleni owe R690 million and R440 million respectively. Mosai said Madibeng was one of the underperforming municipalities that was paying, but doing so late. Municipal debts currently sit at just under R6 billion.
Mosai said that while Rand Water continues to pump at maximum capacity, storage capacity continues to drop amidst raising concerns about the huge amounts of outstanding municipal debts. Rand Water had added additional storage and purification infrastructure, but that it wouldn’t be able to pull off the infrastructure development if it is not paid on time.
