A 46-year-old man was arrested in Maboloka near Brits on Friday for allegedly raping four minors aged 8, 9, 14 and 17.
According to police spokesperson, Captain Aafje Botma, the accused’s 17-year-old granddaughter told a teacher on Wednesday that her grandfather has been raping her since she was 12. It was then discovered that her nine-year-old sister and their eight-year-old cousin, who is staying with the family, have also been raped by the grandfather.
The next day the mother of a 14-year-old, who lived next door to the family, reported that her daughter was also raped by the suspect.
“Preliminary investigations were conducted and the 46-year-old suspect was immediately arrested and charged with four counts of rape,” Botma said.
The man appeared before the Brits Magistrates’ Court on Monday and was remanded in custody until his next appearance.
The Acting Provincial Commissioner, Major General Dintletse Molefe, condemned the incidents and said the police will work hard to bring perpetrators to book.
