A 66- year-old man appeared before Brits Magistrates’ court for the alleged rape of his nine-year-old granddaughter.
The man was arrested at Bethanie near Brits on Wednesday after neighbours started to suspect that something was wrong with the child.
According to police spokesperson, Maria Nkabinde, neighbours of the little girl became suspicious because the girl had an unpleasant odour.
“The neighbour took her to the police station where she was interviewed. The girl was eventually taken to the local clinic for medical attention where possible penetration was confirmed.
During an interview and counselling process, the girl revealed that she was allegedly raped. She also disclosed previous incidents of sexual assault by the grandfather.”
The investigation continues.
