Man arrested in big ecstasy drug bust in De Wildt

Ecstasy tablets and drug-manufacturing equipment were found on the property in De Wildt.

A 32-year-old man was arrested and ecstasy worth R600 000 was confiscated during a police drug bust in De Wildt near Hartbeespoort on Friday.


According to police spokesperson Brigadier Sabata Mokgwabone, Riaan Spies (32) was arrested for possession and dealing in drugs on a smallholding in De Wildt. He said during a multidisciplinary and crime intelligence police operation, a search warrant was executed on the smallholding. Police found approximately 4 000 ecstasy tablets, drug-manufacturing equipment and chemicals used in the manufacturing process
“The drugs are estimated to be worth about R600 000,” he said.
Spies appeared in the Brits Magistrates’ Court on Friday, 2 June, and was remanded in custody. He is expected to reappear in court on Friday, 9 June, for a formal bail application.
