A 25-year-old man is in a critical condition after allegedly being driven over in Beethoven Street in Hartbeespoort on Monday by a motorist who had crashed into his vehicle a few minutes before.

The motorist was later arrested for drunken driving, as well as reckless and negligent driving.

According to information on the scene near the Makalani Bird Park, the accused crashed into the back of the young man’s vehicle shortly before 16:00. “According to eyewitnesses, the young man got out of his vehicle and the motorist pulled away, driving over him. He was dragged under the car for a distance,” said Romano van der Spuy, chairman of the Hartbeespoort community policing forum.

The young man is in a critical condition in a Pretoria hospital and the driver of the other car was arrested on the scene.
