Madibeng mayor, Douglas Maimane has appealed to residents in Letlhabile, Damonsville, Mothutlung and Mmakau to be “patient with the municipality in the midst of water shortages in the area”.

A faulty pump at the Brits water treatment plant is responsible for water rationing.

The municipality is currently rationing water to these areas while repairs to a pump at the Brits water treatment plant are taking place. “We appeal to affected communities to be patient as the repair works are in an advanced state,” Maimane said on Friday. “We have dispatched our own municipal trucks to supply water to the affected areas while rationing continues.”
Following a news report by SABC last week about the water situation in Mothutlung, Maimane said he wanted to dismiss misleading statements made by some of the people who spoke to the SABC. Residents told the news service that the dire water situation in the area had not changed in many years.
According to him, Mothutlung has had a reliable water supply until recently when the pump malfunctioned.
