McKenzie to Ghana

Mckenzie September, a Moutain Cambridge School high school learner, has been invited to represent South Africa at the 2021 African Youth Chess Championships in Ghana.

Mckenzie September

Each country is only allowed to enter 5 players per section. Mckenzie will be playing in the under 16 female section. A good performance at the championships allows a player entry to the 2022 World Youth Chess Championships and the player gets awarded with official World Chess Federation (FIDE) titles like FIDE Master; Woman FIDE Master and norms towards the title of International Master.

Mckenzie’s selection to this event, follows her performance in the 2021 South African Closed Junior Chess Championships. She had limited time for preparation and started round 1 just two days after being discharged from hospital. She still managed to get a ranking of 8th in the South African u16 female category and is currently ranked 8th for top performance standards from the period 01 October 2020 up until now. This is quite impressive because Mckenzie played a limited number of tournaments, compared to her peers.
