A colonel stationed at the Mooinooi police station was shot and killed during a hijacking in Hammanskraal last weekend.
Lieutenant Colonel Lekone Morris Mohajane (55), the Detective Branch Commander at Mooinooi police station, was hijacked at his house in Hammanskraal and killed.
“It is with great sadness that the Provincial Commissioner of North West, Lieutenant General Sello Kwena, learnt of the alleged murder of Lieutenant Mohajane. The Provincial Commissioner visited the Mohajane family on Monday, 5 June, to convey condolences to the family, friends and colleagues of the Colonel, who was a seasoned police officer with 33 years of loyal service,” said police spokesperson Brigadier Sambatha Mokgwobane.
Lieutenant General Kwena said that the death of the selfless and dedicated Lt Col Mohajane came at a crucial time of intensifying the fight against criminality, in which he played a crucial role.
He condemned the killing of police officers, “which is tantamount to undermining the authority of the state and taking away one of the much-needed resources from the community, thus affecting service delivery.” He said that resources have been mobilised to ensure that the suspects are brought to book to face the full might of the law.
