Mooinooi murder accused charged with four rape cases

One of the accused in the gruesome Mooinooi murders two years ago, appeared in the Brits Magistrates’ court on Thursday, 28 November, on an additional four charges of rape from 2008 to 2010 in the Majakaneng and Mooinooi area.

Alex Modau (37) is currently on trial in the Pretoria High Court for the gruesome murders of two Mooinooi women in December 2017. He stands trial with three other accused for the kidnapping and murder of Joey (32) and Anisha (30) van Niekerk.

Modau has been in detention in the Kgosi Mampuru prison in Pretoria for the past two years, awaiting the trial.

“In the meantime his DNA was linked to four rape cases in the Majakaneng and Mooinooi areas from 2008 to 2010 and he was arrested for the rapes while in detention,” said police spokesperson, Maria Nkabinde.

Modau’s role in the Mooinooi murders was allegedly to go on a spending spree with the two women’s bank cars after they were murdered.

Modau will appear in the Brits Magistrates’ court again later this month.
