Four suspected murderers were caught after a police car chase on the N4 near Brits on Friday.

The suspects, aged between 28 and 35, were chased after they gunned down a 36-year-old man while he was doing laundry at his house in Majakaneng. “The suspects arrived in a white Toyota Etios at the victim’s house and found him outside washing clothes. The suspects allegedly opened fire on the man who was found with gunshot wounds to the head and leg. He was certified dead at the scene,” said police spokesperson, Captain Aafje Botma.

According to Botma, the police received a tip-off after the man was shot and members of the Brits Trio Task Team traced the four men in a white Toyota Etios. A chase ensured and they were finally cornered on the N4 and arrested. The police seized the suspects’ Toyota Etios, a 9mm pistol, a revolver with serial numbers filed off, 24 bullets and two cellphones.

“The motive of the incident is yet to be determined and investigation into the matter continues,” she said.

The suspects appeared in the Brits Magistrates’ Court on Monday, 14 February 2022, on charges of murder as well as possession of unlicensed firearms and ammunition.
