Notorious ‘Boko Haram’ gangster nabbed in Mamelodi

The 32-year-old has been on Gauteng’s most wanted list for over a year.

Police in Tshwane arrested a notorious so-called ‘Boko Haram’ criminal gang member in Mamelodi during an O Kae Molao operation over the weekend. The 32-year-old was wanted for extortion and aggravated robberies and had been on the run for over a year.

The Boko Haram gang is known for terrorising the community of Mamelodi in the past few years.

The suspect was one of the most wanted criminals in Gauteng and was arrested after police received a tip-off of his location, according to police spokesperson Lieutenant-Colonel Mavela Masondo.

Masondo says he was among the 1 655 people that were arrested during the provincial police operation.

In the past, Pretoria Rekord reported on various incidents regarding the infamous gang.

A 38-year-old Boko Haram gang member was arrested in April this year and some appeared in court in March 2021.

Masondo says the O Kae Molao operation last weekend saw 380 suspects being arrested for various cases in Tshwane.

He says charges includes the possession of suspected stolen motor vehicles, possession of suspected stolen property, malicious damage to property, hijacking, fraud and attempted murder.
