Hartbeespoort residents whose municipal accounts are in arrears should be worried – Madibeng municipality’s Operation Patela team is in town and cutting electricity without hesitation.

Operation Patela team cut electricity connections in Hartbeespoort this week.

The team, accompanied by Mayor Douglas Maimane, hit homes all over Hartbeespoort on Wednesday and a large number of electricity connections were cut.
“We have been busy with the revenue collection campaign since last year and we will continue until consumers pay their accounts,” Maimane said. Operation Patela has been active in Brits and villages such as Letlhabile in the past months, removing illegal connections and interrupting supply to accounts overdue.
“Our next step is to install electricity metres in all areas where electricity is used illegally and people must pay. Christmas is over and free electricity is over. We have an unfunded budget because of revenue income. This is the municipality’s intervention to turn the municipality around,” Maimane said.
He said it is the mayor’s responsibility, according to law, to be personally involved in revenue enhancement. “And that is exactly what I am doing.”
