The police in Brits are urgently looking for a six-week-old baby that was allegedly kidnapped by a woman at the Shopping centre in Brits on Monday.

Suzan Kutumela (19) left her baby in the care of a woman, who had another baby on her back, outside Shoprite while she went inside the shop. When she returned the woman and both babies were gone.

According to Brits police spokesperson, Maria Nkabinde, the mother and a male friend, both from Oukasie, met the woman, known as Kedibone from Phase 3 in Oukasie, at the Brits Post Office. The two women left the male friend behind and were on their way to the taxi rank. They stopped at the Shoprite Centre in Murray Avenue around 16:40 to buy food. “Suzan allegedly left the baby with the suspect, who was carrying a baby on her back. When she returned the suspect was nowhere to be found with the babies.”

According to Nkabinde the mother had searched for the woman, called Kedobone, but with no result.

“Members of the community are urged to come forward with information that can lead to the whereabouts of the baby. The suspect was wearing a brown jacket and one of the babies was tied around her back with a pink towel.”

The police request anyone with information regarding the incident to contact Detective Sergeant Jonas Mogotlane of the Brits Family Violence Child, Protection and Sexual offences (FCS) Unit on 060 970 9200 or call the Crime Stop number: 08600 10111. Anonymous tip-offs can also be communicated via MySAPS App.
