The North West premier, minister of Mineral Resources and Energy, deputy minister of Water and Sanitation and the MEC of the department of Cooperative Government and Traditional Affairs, visited Brits last week to investigate water and sanitation problems in Madibeng.

Premier Job Mokgoro, minister Gwede Mantashe, deputy minister David Mahlobo, MEC Mmoloki Cwaili and member of parliament, China Dodovu met with the mayor and stakeholders from Magalies Water and other key institutions. The contingent visited the Brits Water Treatment Plant to assess the plant and the projects based there.

The meeting sought to enhance and facilitate collaborations at all executive and administrative levels, in all three spheres of governance so that the water and sanitation challenges in the municipality may be attended to effectively.

This follows shortly on the heels of a water interruption in the Brits area after workers at the Brits water treatment plant downed tools because of a dispute with Madibeng’s management.

In a public notice the municipality said the water supply interruptions are the result of “municipal workers abandoning work.”

“The workers have raised numerous workplace issues with Management of the municipality and those issues are receiving attention.

According to the notice, internal disciplinary procedures are on the way.
