The prestigious MyGolfLife Open event of the International Sunshine Tour with its 1.5 million dollar prize money saw all eyes on Pecanwood last week with world-renowned golfers taking to the stunning golf course.

An ecstatic Pablo Larrazabal after his win

The Pecanwood Country Club hosted the first of two new events on the 2022 schedule that are co-sanctioned by the Sunshine Tour and the DP World Tour.

Pablo Larrazabal won for the sixth time on the DP World Tour after overcoming compatriot Adri Arnaus and Jordan Smith from England in a playoff at Pecanwood. Larrazabal (38) completed his 72 holes on 22-under 266.

Larrazábal was born in Barcelona, Spain. He attended high school in the United States and returned to Spain in 2002 with the intention of turning professional but his father made him work on the family fish farm in Cantabria to understand the value of money. He eventually turned professional in 2004.

For Pecanwood this was a great honour. “We are very proud of this achievement and to showcase our beautiful estate and surroundings to the world. We have been working for two years to host a professional golf event at our facility. This event was special as it is one of the last events on the European schedule to qualify for the Master Tournament in Augusta in April this year,” Pecanwood estate manager, Morné Botha said.
