The robbers forced the owner to give them cash after shooting him in his leg.

The owner and a cashier were inside the store when two men entered the store.

The owner (36) of a bottle store on the corners of Steve Biko Road and Swemmer Street in Gezina, Pretoria, was shot in his leg after an armed robbery at around 18:00 on Monday.

The owner and a cashier were inside the store when two men entered the store. They took the owner outside and shot him in his left leg just above the knee.

CCTV video footage shows that a VW Polo pulled up outside the store.

The suspects forced the limping owner back into the store where they took him behind the counter and demanded cash from the till. One of the robbers went to the office and opened a drawer from which he took cash.

The suspects fled the scene with R5 000 cash and two bottles of alcohol.

“A case of business robbery and attempted murder was opened,” said Constable Mandlakayise Zwane of the Wonderboompoort police station.

“We’re appealing to community members who may have information about this case to call the Wonderboompoort police or the Crime Stop line on 08600 10111,” said Zwane.

The owner was stabilised on the scene; whereafter, he was taken to a nearby hospital.

The local CPF and Kilnerpark Security assisted by securing the crime scene.

Moot CPF patrolling co-ordinator Willie Cloete said that an eyewitness informed them of the robbery.

“We found two empty cartridges outside the store. It is suspected that four shots were fired,” said Cloete.
