An armed robber who went to hospital after a shootout with a house owner during a robbery, was arrested by the police when he left the hospital on Saturday.

Talent Moyo (28) sustained injuries during a shootout with the owner of a house in Brits that he had invaded on Thursday, 31 October. “He went to the Ga-Rankuwa hospital and used a false name during admission. However, the police received information and intercepted him after he was discharged from the hospital. He was arrested,” said police spokesperson, Brigadier Sabata Mokgwabone.

Further investigation linked Moyo to the business robberies at the Panorama shopping centre in Brits on Monday, 21 October 2019 when 12 heavily armed men stormed and robbed three shops of cash. “He was also linked to several other business robberies in Brits and Rustenburg.”

Moyo appeared in the Brits Magistrates’ court on Monday and was remanded in custody until his next appearance on 27 November 2019.

He will also re-appear before the same court on Monday, 6 January 2020 on various other charges. Investigation into the matter continues.

“The Provincial Commissioner of North West, Lieutenant General Baile Motswenyane praised the police members for their vigilance and tireless efforts to ensure that the perpetrator is put behind bars,” Mokgwabone said.
