Seven armed robbers in three vehicles broke open the gates to Village Mall shortly before 05:00.

While some of the robbers kept watch in the parking lot, others broke down the door to Incredible Connection, loaded valuable items in trolleys and carted them to the vehicles.
A security guard on duty in the mall saw the robbers enter and called for backup. When Aequitas arrived moments later, the robbers opened fire with the automatic rifles, forcing them to retreat.
As the robbers were fleeing the scene, they came across a PWV Security vehicle on patrol outside the gates and again opened fire. It is estimated that around 20 bullets were fired at the vehicle. The robbers fled in a Toyota Fortuner, Volkswagen Combi and BMW X3, all white in colour. They were fleeing in the direction of Ga-Rankuwa.
According to residents and information on the scene, 50 or more shots were fired during the robbery. No one was injured.
The robbers got away with cellphones, laptops and other electronic equipment worth hundreds of thousands of Rands.
The mall will be closed until the forensic investigation on the scene is completed.
