Fraudsters in KwaZulu-Natal are coercing beneficiaries to ‘change’ their Sassa cards.

Social grant beneficiaries are warned not to hand over their cards to criminals posing as Sassa employees visiting communities around Mtunzini in KwaZulu-Natal.

According to Sassa spokesperson Sandy Godlwane, there have been a number of reports of these fraudsters coercing beneficiaries to ‘change’ their Sassa cards.

“We have not embarked on a campaign to change beneficiaries’ cards, and under no circumstances will our officials visit households to change their cards,” said Godlwane.

“We urge all beneficiaries not to co-operate with anybody who requests them to change their cards. Instead, report incidents directly to the police.”

Godlwane said people must exercise caution and not share grant payment card pin numbers with anyone.

Anyone wanting to report or query suspicious activity can call the Customer Care number 033 8463400 or 0800 60 10 11.
