A cash-in-transit robber was arrested after he got trapped in a vehicle with which he rammed a money truck near De Wildt on Friday morning. A security guard was killed during the attempted cash-in-transit (CIT) robbery.

Robbers in three vehicles intercepted the Fidelity ADT money van on the M17/Hornsnek Road around 06:30 and a robber in a Mercedes rammed into the van. According to police spokesperson Colonel Brenda Murildili, a shootout between the robbers and security team followed and the security guards managed to keep the robbers at bay. The robbers fled in two vehicles without taking any cash.
The trapped suspect had to be extracted from the vehicle and was arrested. A 45-year-old security guard was declared dead on the scene. “At this stage it is not clear what the cause of death is. The injured suspect as well as two security officers were taken to hospital for medical attention.”
Muridili said the police have identified the injured robber as one of the top 10 wanted alleged CIT robbers in the country.
“We are appealing to anyone with information that can lead to the arrest of the suspects that fled the scene to call Crime Stop number 086 00 10111 or send tip-offs on MySAPS App.”
