A presumed car thief was caught by response officers of Aequitas Security Solutions in Hartbeespoort on Monday after the security service’s automatic number plate recognising camera flagged the vehicle that was hijacked in Johannesburg earlier this month.
“Aequitas dispatched armed response and the vehicle was quickly intercepted while driving on the R511. The response officer managed to detain the two male occupants inside the vehicle. Hartbeespoortdam police were on the scene within a few minutes and the suspects were handed over to them for further questioning,” said Etienne Louw of Aequitas.
Police spokesperson Colonel Adele Myburgh confirmed that two suspects were arrested in connection with the hijacking and theft of the vehicle in Johannesburg. They have been charged with the possession of a suspected stolen vehicle.
