Seven arrested for railway line theft

Seven suspects were arrested for stealing railway lines in Hekpoort on Wednesday, 9 June, after a security company received a tip-off about people cutting up a railway line.

“Oostermoed Security received information from a member of the public that people were cutting a railway line in Hekpoort. A security officer was dispatched to the scene and found the cut-up railway line and equipment, but no one was at the scene. A lookout was placed and at 19:55 a truck arrived and loaded the railway line,” Oostermoed Security said.

Security officers were placed on routes in the area to intercept the truck and it was spotted on the R560. “Backup was requested from the police and the truck was pulled over by Oostermoed officers who detained seven suspects and handed them over to the Hekpoort police that arrived shortly afterwards.”
