An eight-year-old girl survived following a near drowning at a water park in Hartbeespoort on Saturday.

This follows shortly on the heels of the drowning of a nine-year-old girl at a resort in Hartbeespoort last week and two students who drowned at a Hartbeespoort hotel a week before..
Hartbeespoort Emergency Medical Service (HEMS) on Saturday responded to the drowning incident at the waterpark and a successful cardiopulmonary resuscitation was performed. Once stabilised, the child was airlifted to a hospital for specialised treatment.
Last Thursday a nine-year-old girl drowned in a swimming pool at a resort in Hartbeespoort. According to a spokesperson for the resort, the girl was at the resort with family members and was swimming in the pool when she got into trouble. “We were told the family members were with a smaller child at the nearby small pool when the girl wandered off to the big pool. Two boys playing with a ball in the swimming pool saw that she was in trouble and lifted her out of the pool.”
Cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) was performed until the Hartbeespoort Emergency Medical Service (HEMS) arrived. Paramedics managed to revive the girl and she was stabilised before she was flown by an emergency medical helicopter to a hospital in Pretoria for specialised care. She unfortunately died on Friday morning.
The previous week, two students, aged 19 and 21, drowned at a hotel in Broederstroom where they were attending a college programme.
