The total number of Covid-19 cases in South Africa rose by 297 on 30 April, reaching a total of 5 647. No new deaths were reported and the number remains at 103 patients that have succumbed to the virus.

According to a statement by Minister of Health Dr Zweli Mkhize, the total number of tests to date is 207 530, of which 10 403 were conducted within the last 24 hours.

The provincial breakdown is as follows:

  • Eastern Cape – 647
  • Free State – 116
  • Gauteng – 1 446
  • KwaZulu-Natal – 980
  • Limpopo – 32
  • Mpumalanga – 36
  • North West – 31
  • Northern Cape – 17
  • Western Cape – 2 342.
