The electricity supply to Hartbeespoort was cut on Monday afternoon due to the Madibeng municipality’s non-payment of the City of Tshwane account.

The Tshwane metro switched off the supply just after 13:00.  Shortly after that the municipality went into negotiations with Tshwane and an amount was paid.

“The municipality has made a payment this afternoon and expects the power supply to be restored in the affected areas. The municipality will do its utmost best to prevent such inconvenience from occurring again,” said Tumelo Tshabalala, spokesperson for the Madibeng municipality.

The municipality did not reply to Kormorant’s questions about the amount owed to Tshwane and how long it has been in arrears.

“The municipality wishes to apologize for the inconvenience experienced by customers in Hartbeespoort this afternoon,” Tshabalala said.
