A biker and his passenger were killed when they crashed into a truck on Van der Hoff Road at Hartbeespoort on Saturday evening.

A father and daughter were seriously injured when a car crashed into them.

According to eyewitnesses at the scene, it seems the driver lost control of the bike when it hit the road hump at Sunway Village around 17:45. The bike crashed into a truck that had just pulled away from the stop sign and the impact propelled the rider and his female passenger into the truck.

According to Leandre Spies, spokesperson for Hartbeespoort Emergency Medical Service (HEMS) it seems the driver had died on impact. “The female passenger was still alive upon paramedics’ arrival on the scene and they did everything they could to save her, but she died soon after.”

Hartbeespoort police are investigating a culpable homicide case.

Harro Rust, chairman of Plotwag, said the unmarked humps at the Sunway crossing were a big concern. “There are no warnings or road markings, and people not familiar with the area do not see the humps until it is too late.

Warning signs must be erected and road markings painted to warn motorists and bikers,” he said.

On Sunday, a father and daughter were both seriously injured when a car crashed into them on the R513 in De Wildt. According to eyewitnesses, the oncoming vehicle turned into their lane and hit them head-on. The daughter was airlifted in a serious condition to the Millpark Hospital in Johannesburg. The father sustained numerous fractures in his legs, ribs, fingers and toes. Both are in hospital and are undergoing operations. The driver of the vehicle was arrested for reckless and negligent driving.
