Two cases opened after EFF damages Clicks stores

The Hartbeespoort police are investigating two cases of malicious damage to property after EFF members damaged two Clicks stores in Hartbeespoort on Monday.

Village Mall

The Clicks store at the Islands Mall suffered substantial damage when members of the EFF invaded the store on Monday afternoon, after the police had left the mall, overturning shelves and vandalising the store.

The protesters were at the mall earlier, but left when the police arrived. A few hours later they returned.

At Village Mall security and the Hartbeespoort police quickly dispersed a group of about 12 EFF-supporters early on Monday morning after they vandalised the Clicks store’s windows by spraying “racism must fall’ and ‘close’ on the store’s windows.

A strong police presence at Brits Mall also saw that about 20 EFF members left after spraying “closed” on the store’s windows.

The destructive protest follows a call by the EFF to disrupt Clicks stores countrywide after an alleged ‘racist’ advertisement of a hair care company appeared on the Clicks website. The advertisement of the popular TRESemme hair products, which portrayed black natural hair as ‘dry, damaged, and frizzy’, while a photo of white natural hair was described as ‘normal’, was displayed on the Clicks group’s official website, leading to the EFF calling for a nationwide shut-down of all the Clicks stores.
