Watch how Rex the dog, doomed to euthanasia, is saved by HAWS
This is the heart-breaking but also heart-warming story of Rex, a dreadfully ill dog brought to the Hartbeespoort Animal Welfare Society (HAWS) to be euthanised.
However, HAWS’ dedicated veterinarian and chairman, Dr Kate Tucker and her team saw a will to live in Rex’s eyes and decided to save him. Watch for yourself but keep the tissues close!
Rex’s story was filmed by well-known wildlife and environment filmmaker Hermien Roelvert-van Gils who recently turned her camera on animal welfare. She was filming a typical day at the HAWS shelter when Rex’s story unfolded.
It has been two weeks since filming and Rex is slowly recuperating. “His treatment is extremely expensive and any donations towards Rex’s journey back to health will be sincerely appreciated,” Dr Kate said. “We are hopeful. We fell in love with him and when he is healthy, he won’t be up for adoption. He is now our HAWS dog!”
Help save Rex and enable him to live the life he was meant to by donating funds towards his care to HAWS’ bank account:
