Periodic water supply problems in the Meerhof, Melodie and Rieftontein areas are due to the restrictions of the Randwater supply to Hartbeespoort, the Madibeng municipality said this week.

The supply has been choked by 20% due to the water supplier’s restrictions in all its supply areas. Many parts of South Africa are currently suffering water shortages due to the recent heatwave and Randwater announced the supply restriction in October.

Madibeng spokesperson, Tumelo Tshabalala said the restrictions were imposed due to the high demand on Randwater systems. “We are not the only municipality affected by the restriction. The recent heatwave has not helped the situation and with it came a high water demand. We can only plead with our consumers to use water very sparingly in efforts to preserve the little that we have.”

No watering of gardens or washing of cars are allowed and residents are requested to use water sparingly in order for all areas to have water.
