A woman is in critical condition after being shot on the N4 close to Brits on Saturday night after a car hit rocks in the road.

According to police spokesperson Maria Nkabinde, Thamsanqa Baloyi and two women were driving on the N4 near the Brits toll gate when they saw rocks blockading the road and tried to swerve. “The rear tyre was damaged and he stopped to change it. He was accosted by three men who instructed them to lie down. During the squabble with the suspects, one of the female occupants was shot in the stomach, she said.
The robbers searched the car and took cellphones, clothes and shoes before fleeing on foot. The suspects are still at large.
According to Leandre Spies, spokesperson for Hartbeespoort Emergency Medical Service (HEMS) the critically injured patient was transported to a hospital where an emergency operation was performed.
