The World Belly Dance Day festival comes to Hartbeespoort on Saturday 13 May. The 2023 event will be held in support of Kuierkidz special needs centre.

Hartbeespoort’s Belly Buttons

World Belly Dance Day is a charity event by a community of dancers celebrating the Art of Belly Dance and helping those in need. This year the theme is “cultural exchange through art”.
Over 55 dancers from Johannesburg, Pretoria and Hartbeespoort will entertain the audience at the Kuierkidz centre at Skemerberg in Rietfontein. And a luxurious holiday in Mozambique worth R15 000 is to be won by the person who sells the most entrance tickets. Entrance fee is only R50 per person.
Belly Dance is one of the oldest dance forms in the world. The dance form evolved through the centuries into a “melting pot” of different world cultures.
Hartbeespoort resident Marinda Sauerman has been involved with this art form for the last 23 years and feels passionately about the positive effect that the dance form has had over women who suffered some trauma and stress related illnesses. “Most belly dancers in South Africa just dance for fun and fitness, but they have the option to participate in festivals and school showcases. The artform also welcomes women of all cultures, ages and body types. In other words ‘no expiry date’, you can start at any time of your life!”
