The Hartbeespoort Boat Club Annual Opening of the Dam was celebrated this weekend with a lively and well-supported day on the water, marking the start of the 2025 boating season at Hartbeespoort Dam. Families, boaters, and visitors turned out in numbers to enjoy the sunshine, festive atmosphere, and the shared excitement of a new season ahead.
The event was supported by the NSRI Station 25 and the Hartbeespoort Marine Law Enforcement Unit, who reminded the community that while the dam is a place for fun and relaxation, safety must always come first.
“We want everyone to enjoy the dam, but we also want everyone to go home safely,” said Station Commander Arthur Crewe. “Please follow boating rules, look out for one another, and save the NSRI emergency number on your phone.”
As the busy boating season begins, the community is urged to:
• Always ensure you have life jackets on board your vessel.
• Carry the required safety equipment.
• Never drink and drive a boat.
• Be aware of weather conditions.
• Save the NSRI emergency number: 082 990 5961.
The day closed with a strong sense of community and shared responsibility for keeping Hartbeespoort’s waters safe. With teamwork between local enforcement, the NSRI, and dam users, the 2025 season is set to be both enjoyable and safe for all.
