Ifafi house on fire – no municipal water
A house caught fire in Ifafi on Monday, causing panic as the area had been without water for the past week.
An out-of-control veld fire led to the thatched roof of a house on Dam Drive going up in flames on Monday afternoon. The area had been without water for the past week due to municipal water pipe bursts, and neighbours had to watch helplessly while trying to get emergency services to the scene.
A neighbour, Jaco Grobler, was the first to notice the fire. “I contacted Afriforum and while waiting, started hosing the flames out of my water tank. AfriForum Hartbeespoort’s fire team was on scene within minutes and doused the flames, preventing them from spreading. Necsa Fire, HEMS fire team and Madibeng Fire arrived soon after. While they were dousing the smouldering roof, community members from all over joined to carry the residents’ belongings out of the house. It was heartwarming to see people coming together to help,” Grobler said. “On behalf of the residents of the house, thank you to AfriForum, HEMS, Necsa, Brits Fire and all the community members who helped save the house.”
