Driven by a passion to uplift his community through mental health support, mentorship, and youth empowerment, Katlego Molaba (21) is stepping into his future with purpose.

This young resident from Mothutlung near Brits has just completed his Bachelor of Occupational Therapy degree at Sefako Makgatho Health Sciences University. As a beneficiary of the De Wildt Solar Scholarship Programme, Katlego is already focused on how he can use his qualification to make meaningful change in Mothotlung.
The scholarship programme not only provided Katlego with financial assistance but also opened doors to mentorship, leadership development, and a strong network of like-minded students.
“The scholarship programme has been transformative for my academic journey. It relieved financial stress, allowing me to focus on my studies and personal growth. Beyond that, it gave me access to mentorship and a community of motivated scholars that strengthened my confidence and broadened my perspective on what’s possible,” said Katlego.
His passion for Occupational Therapy began in high school when representatives from Sefako Makgatho University visited Mothotlung High School. That encounter introduced him to the field and inspired him to pursue a career dedicated to improving the quality of life for others.
“I realised that some of my loved ones could have benefited from occupational therapy services. That motivated me to bring such support to my community and to work towards reducing the stigma surrounding health-related conditions,” he shared.
The De Wildt Solar Scholarship Programme supports academically deserving and financially constrained students residing within the Madibeng Municipality. Preference are given to applicants whose intended field of study includes science, technology, engineering, mathematics, commerce, development studies and qualifications that are classified as scare skills.
