Gert Fourie (63), the superintendent in the electrical department of the Madibeng Municipality, died on Wednesday morning due to the severe injuries he sustained when a transformer he was working on exploded in Brits two weeks ago.

Fourie had been in intensive care in the Millpark Hospital for the past two weeks. He sustained critical burn wounds and was connected to a ventilator.
Condolences poured in from Madibeng residents this week. “Gert was a much-loved resident and our deepest sympathy with his wife Mariaan and children, Alan, Leana and Zelda, and grandchildren. We pray that God carries them through this loss and heartache,” Councillor Elsa Lourens said on behalf of the Freedom Front Plus caucus in Brits.
“Gert was a man who left deep traces in the community and in the lives of everyone who knew him. We lost a friend and colleague, but his family lost much more. Myself and the Democratic Alliance in Madibeng express our deepest sympathy to his wife Mariaan, children and grandchildren on their tragic loss,” said Councillor Eugene van der Schyff. “Steven Nyende, who was in the same tragic accident, is still in the hospital – our prayers are with you and your family for your speedy and full recovery from your injuries,” Van der Schyff said.
